Strain Description: This strain carries a null mutation in the DNA mismatch repair gene Msh2. Cells from mice homozygous for this mutation are incapable of repairing single-nucleotide and insertion/deletion mismatches. Homozygous mice become moribund between 2.5 and 11.5 months, the result of lymphomas (about 70%) and/or intestinal tumors (about 70%). Heterozygous mice have a higher incidence of tumors than wild type mice, but live in excess of 16 months. This strain has been used to study the effect of this mismatch repair mutation on mice carrying Apc mutations.
