| Common Strain Name: | WAP-Tag | ||
| Strain Nomenclature: | B6.Cg-Tg(WapTag)8Gmn | ||
| Release Category (Required for MTA form): C,D | |||
| Strain Description: | These mice express SV40 T/t antigen under control of the lactotropic hormone-inducible whey acidic protein (Wap) promoter, which is specific for mammary gland epithelial (ME) cells. Females synthesize T/t antigen (Tag) in ME cells during pregnancy and the lactation period. Mice that undergo at least one pregnancy develop palpable mammary tumors (adenocarcinomas) at 6 months of age. Female transgenic mice cannot be used as breeders due to a lactation defect. | ||
