Strain Description: This strain carries a targeted null mutation in the Nkx3-1 (Nkx3.1) gene, which appears to function as a tumor suppressor gene in the prostate. Homozygous males display prostatic epithelial hyperplasia and dysplasia that increases with age. Heterozygous mice display a similar, less severe, phenotype, indicating haploinsufficiency. There are also defects in prostate ductal morphogenesis and secretory protein production. There is no reported female phenotype.
